Learn to Play Carcassonne [Video]
Let’s face it. The first time you sit down at the table to play a new game is hard. And with good rule book writing being a somewhat lost art for many publishers, it is even harder. Every gamer goes through this. You make a trip to your FLGS to pick up a new game. It’s an exciting experience. Browsing rows upon rows of box covers, flipping through reviews on Board Game Geek, and pestering whoever is working at the store for insight. Then you do it! You make the purchase and bring home your prize to add to the collection.
And then it happens. You open up the box to find a 10+ pages of rules staring back at you. All of that excitements begins to fade away as you realize you will now have to spend the next 30 minutes reading this guide before you can even attempt playing. It’s frustrating. And for people new to the hobby it can be a huge turnoff.
So I am going to show you everything you need to know to get those games to the table faster. With a whole lot less time spent leafing through the rules. Enter the “Learn to Play” series.
Every month (hopefully) I am going to put out a new video showing you how to play some of best gateway games in the hobby. Gateway games are great entry points for new players to get into the hobby. And provide a less complicated but nonetheless fun time for veteran gamers. Personally most of my favorite games fall into the gateway category. So before you hit up your FLGS to buy your next game, or if you have one of these games already sitting on your shelf collecting dust, sit down for a few minutes and Learn to Play with the Screaming Brain.
